The Mountain Bike Association of Dublin (MAD) is Ireland’s longest-running and largest mountain bike club. Founded in 1989 with just a handful of members, MAD MTB is a dynamic and passionate community dedicated to unleashing the thrill of mountain biking in the vibrant landscapes surrounding the Irish capital.
MAD is more than just a mountain bike club; it's a hub for over 150 enthusiasts who share a love for the great outdoors and the thrill of conquering diverse trails. Whether you're a seasoned rider or a newcomer, MAD offers a welcoming community for all riders from novices to successful competitors at international level. MAD is actively involved in the biking community in Ireland running events and contributing to trail development and maintenance.

Curious about MAD but want to test the waters first?
Firstly, we recommend our monthly open spins, a popular monthly event where riders, both members and prospective members, come together to hit the trails.
If you are familiar with the official trails in Ticknock/Ballinastoe and able to comfortably complete a full 13/14km loop, then this is the perfect opportunity to meet fellow riders and get a taste of the MAD community.
Here you will discover new trails led by experienced members who will provide advice and answer your questions about riding with the club. Nobody will be left behind and you are encouraged to ride within your existing skill level and comfort zone.

If you already have a Cycling Ireland licence, that's no problem. You can join up straight away by paying your club fee directly to the club. Alternatively, you can pay your Cycling Ireland licence and MAD membership fees at the same time through the Cycling Ireland website.

Open club spins are usually run once a month – look out for dates in our calendar or on social media! These spins see lots of club members out so it’s a great chance to get a taste of what the club is like and sample some trail favourites. The pace is easy-to-average and route choice varies to suit the group. No one is left behind. We encourage everyone to ride within their existing skill level and comfort zone. Sounds good? Get ready to push your limits, test your skills, and compete for the prestigious title of MAD Club Champion! Be prepared for other antics thrown in for the laugh.
The race format comprises three trails in a timed Enduro-style race. Each competitor has one hour to put down a single run on each of the three stages. The times over the three stages then being calculated to find the overall winners in both Mens and Womens categories
Every year we run a time based competition called the Stravaduro. It is usually consists of 3 rounds starting in January and running until March. Each round takes place over a single month with multiple segments as part of each round. The objective is for the competitors to set the fastest strava times on those segments withen the given month.
Points are earned for each segment completed and a winner is declared for each round.
The overall Men’s/Women’s winner is declared at the end of the 3 rounds with prizes going to the overall winners.
The Best Male/Female Racer award is bestowed upon the rider who has consistently showcased unparalleled prowess and performance across a variety of events throughout the year. Whether dominating challenging downhill descents, conquering gruelling cross-country courses, or excelling in endurance races, this individual stands out as a true embodiment of dedication to their craft.
