The Mountain Bike Association of Dublin (MAD) is Ireland’s longest-running and largest mountain bike clubs. Founded in 1989 with just a handful of members focused mainly on cross-country cycling, the club has grown to now include more than 150 members across multiple MTB disciplines including XC, Enduro, Downhill and Cyclocross. MAD is actively involved in running national XC races, Enduro races, and other prominent events on the Irish mountain biking calendar.

The Trails Are Waiting

The club forum is an active hub for members and non-members alike, with general discussion, technical talk, racing and a bustling buy and sell section. Once you become a member, you also receive access to the members-only section of the forum, which is where all club activities are posted, including all spins, trail-building days and social events. Active participation is encouraged and any member can post a new event, be it a spin, dig-day or social.

Our ethos is built around fostering a friendly, sociable and all-inclusive approach to mountain biking. Our club members range from those who ride simply for fun, to first-time racers, to riders competing successfully nationally and internationally.

A couple of times each year, we arrange trips to far off and exotic mountain biking destinations, and some not so far off, and still somewhat exotic locations. Trips are organised by members, open to all members and provide a great opportunity to discover somewhere new and get to know your fellow members in a social setting as well.

We’re fortunate to have some of the country’s best bike businesses as our sponsors (Expert CyclesGlencullen Adventure Park, and Yoga Space Lucan). Membership will provide you with access to club discounts from those clubs sponsors.

How to Join?

Usually, run on the last Saturday or Sunday of the month, these spins see lots of club members out. It’s your chance to get a taste of what the club is like and sample some trail favourites. The pace is easy-to-average and route choice varies to suit the group. No one is left behind. We encourage everyone to ride within their existing skill level and comfort zone.

All are welcome on these spins but it is important to have a general level of fitness and some experience on a mountain bike. If you are familiar with the official trails in Ticknock/Ballinastoe and able to comfortably complete a full 13/14km loop, then you should be well able to join us. Intro-spins are led by experienced MAD members on-hand to provide advice and answer any questions you may have regarding riding with the club.

Sounds good? Add your contact details to the Intro-Spin mailing list and we will be in touch with details of the spin a week or so before the next date!
