I'm doing it this year. If anyone is up for some zippy xc spins between now and then, holla.

I wouldn't call it zippy, tortuous more like! Some great trails in there but I'll have to be a bit wiser as to how I spend my energy this time. Put too much into the climb to the mast, and probably got away with a lot on the descents, later paid for it with a crash into some rocks while I was a zombie :)

Torturous, you say? My favourite kind of bike riding! Anyway, the zippy is pre-Cooley to set me up nicely for it. Am out riding with another club in preparation. Their Sunday spins are F.A.S.T. with very little hanging around and lots of climbing. Hopefully I'll be all like "what hill?" on the 10th.

I'll be struggling to keep up so!
For anyone that's interested, here's my strava's from
2016 ( didn't record properly, but basically I nearly died from a lack of fitness + cramps )
https://www.strava.com/activities/666494108
2017 ( dry weather and reasonable pace )
https://www.strava.com/activities/1129767027
2018 ( wet weather, crashed )
https://www.strava.com/activities/1764970476

So we have 3 so far anyway.. anyone else doing it? Simon, Ronan, Niamh, Pawel ?

I'll be there. It's always a main highlight of the year.

Can someone remind me what the alternative is to lugging around loads of water in a hydration pack? I vaguely recall some mention of leaving water bottles at feed stations...

There are 3 food/water drops. They have the baskets available before the race. Just drop in what you need and pickup later.

Not me this year, Phil.
I'm not doing enough biking to tackle the Cooley.

Ok, fair enough. I'm not sure that I'm doing enough either - I do a lot of road spins but not many long spins. But it's not something I want to miss, I just need to pace myself a bit better.
