I was undecided on this, but the 110 entry fee sort of makes the decision for me!

Was a pity the entrance fee was a bit higher than the other venues alright.. but sure, paid it anyway 😂

Signed up! Not planning on doing much racing this year so that took the sting out of the fee for me.

Now to finally go ride in Carrick!

There were a few late cancellations for the Sunday Wicklow EWS race .  If you have any friends / teammates that might like to race, registration for these final few open spots is available at : (https://ews2017.eventbrite.ca/)https://ews2017.eventbrite.ca . The entry deadline would be May 14 as we will be finalizing the start list as soon as the EWS rankings  have been updated following the Madeira EWS this weekend.   Please also note that the entries have been offered to all the riders on the waitlist as well – once the race is full again the system will display “sold out”. Registration for the Saturday Challenger race is also still open until May 12 if you have any friends / teammates that might be interested in that race instead.  Online registration for the Challenger is available at: https://wicklowchallenger.eventbrite.ca

Email from EWS - Some spots for both races if anyone feels like joining. Go on ;)

So the course map was supposed to be released yesterday at 18:00. They released the main race map but I'm assuming that it will the same for us challengers. It makes things simple for them: Challenger race stages 1-4 and full race stages 1-6.

Does this mean we'll have to spend all our time on Friday trying to ride rocky descents?!  :o :P

Was a little disappointed we don't get to do Stage 5 or Emerald Expresss ha

Stage 1 a great trail and great opener. Stage 2 the flat out hold onto your jocks in the rocks stage. Stage 3 How's your trials skills. Stage 4 fun top flat bottom

Excited now

That's Friday's practice sorted - ride the top of stages 2 and 3 repeatedly.

Yeah 2 is the one that starts with the fast flat out straight down the rocky gulley, stage 3 is the one with the trias type top where ya have to hop up onto the ledge at the start. No mail sent out but the notes are on the EWS website and they say we do stage 1-4. Practice stage 3-4 from 10 til 1:30 then stage 1 and 2 from 1:30 to 5

Basically up to 6 people can register to start the race at the same time. There's usually only 5 or 10 min between waves so if you have more people than that you can easily sync up if you get 2 together.

Hi Pawel,

Greg Callaghan's start times are here:

(http://www.emeraldenduro.com/images/walking%20route%20final%20v1.jpg) (http://www.emeraldenduro.com/images/walking%20route%20final%20v1.jpg)

I think he will be the last rider on each stage because he's ranked #1 at present. Not sure if they are going on current results or last years overall Series standings. I reckon if you get in place at least 30mins before Greg's times you'll get to see the top bunch

PS the normal running order at the end of each stage (after all the amateur/unranked racers) is the Female Pros go first and then the top 30 Male Pros

Someone from the challenger wave let me know what time you will start each stage tomorrow. I'll be taking photos but not sure what time I will get down there. Same goes for any of you doing the main race, I'll be tracking Ruth around the mountain, but will try squeeze in others if possible!

Myself, Mantas, John B and Stephen F setting off from village at 10:20 so up at the start of 1 probably 45 mins from then. Challengers don't get individual stage start times so it's a bit of guesswork

Great results from the Madsers in 19-29 cat, a win for Jayo and 3rd for Scrivo, John & Conor doing well too. Other good placings too in 30-39.

Fair play to y'all, specially with the shitty conditions.

Fair play to the Marshalls too. Wouldn't fancy being out there today.

Jaysus that was tough. Easily the worst conditions I've cycled in. I have to admit, I felt pretty miserable on the climb to the last stage. Couldn't wait to get in the car and turn on the heat.

Didn't do as terribly as I thought. Weirdly stage 1 turned out to be my best despite having a big off. Luckily my brakes were feck all use, so I had no choice but to go fast on the quick parts of 2 and 4 :D
Title: Re: EWS Challenger
Post by: SoaringPanda on 27, May, 2017, 07:52:04 PM
I started off in survival mode but dropping into stage 1 realised there was a fair amount of grip. Stage 2 went ok but I made loads of small mistakes throughout. Stage 3 was my best stage and apart from one stumble at the top was smooth. Stage 4 was a disaster, took a big tumble half way down and just couldn't recover and get back into it. Two tough days on the bike anyway.

Huge thanks to Stephen, Steve, Keith and all the other Marshals! and best of luck to all racing the main event tomorrow.

Damn that sucks! Yeah I legged it after a few minutes... only to stand in the rain waiting for Ruth on stage 6. Was fun watching people getting caught out by the tree in the windey gully section on 6 though
